Kanye West Replaces Taylor Swift At No. 1 On A Billboard Chart

Ye’s latest album Vultures 1 is surging on the charts in America this week. The set—his first in a series of three with Ty Dolla $ign—is growing thanks to its recent release on vinyl for the first time. As all those purchases impact the title’s performance, the controversial rapper’s new project unseats one of the biggest names in the music industry, and a longtime rival of his.

Vultures 1 debuts at No. 1 on this week’s Vinyl Albums chart. The project is new to Billboard’s list of the bestselling titles on the format, though it’s already spent months on other tallies.

As Vultures 1 hits the top spot, Ye and $ign replace Taylor Swift at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart. The superstar’s latest release The Tortured Poets Department dips from the throne to the runner-up rung after a pair of stints atop the list.

Ye and Swift have been at odds for more than a decade now. The two are seemingly inextricably linked to one another after several disagreements, which all played out in very public ways. The spat began when Ye interrupted the country singer as she accepted an MTV Video Music Award, which he felt should have gone to Beyoncé.

The fight died down later but was reignited with the release of Ye’s song “Famous,” in which he raps about having sex with Swift and calls her a bitch. A back-and-forth ensued, in which at first Swift was called a liar regarding their possible interactions before the tune was released…and then Ye took a turn with the same label.

Vultures 1 marks Ye’s third No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart. He’s previously ruled with both Yeand My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The troubled musician has earned five top 10 appearances on the list.

$ign reaches the top spot on the Vinyl Albums roster for the first time. In fact, Vultures 1 marks his debut trip to the tally in any position.

While The Tortured Poets Department might not be in charge of the Vinyl Albums chart any longer, it’s still ruling on another list. The title remains at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a third frame at the moment. It seems like it’s headed for a fourth turn in first place on that all-encompassing roster in a few days.
